Character Interview with Meredith Chapman from Stars Over Texas

Today we have the heroine from author Tessa Gray’s latest book, Stars Over Texas. Please welcome the lovely Tessa Gray and her feisty heroine, Meredith Chapman!

1.  Katherine: How would you describe yourself?

Meredith: Competitive.

2. Katherine: What is your greatest aspiration?

Meredith: When I was a kid, I always dreamed of being an astronaut. Of course, that never happened. Now that I’m a single mother of two children, I’ve gone back to college and plan on becoming an educator. I think that’s because I feel guilty about not being a better mother. Maybe I’m trying to make up for it. Or maybe I’m trying to make up for the fact I can be the bitch from hell at a parent/teacher conference. I’m changing, though, really-I swear it.

3. Katherine: Would you prefer a quiet sanctuary or a crowded gathering?

Meredith: I’m not trying to dodge the question here, but truth be told, now that I’m dating Adam, I prefer a quiet sanctuary. I used to be the life of the party, but over time,   I’ve changed.

4. Katherine: What is your favorite pastime?

Meredith: I definitely love hanging out with my best friends, Kelsey and Rachel. We’ve been friends for years, and I can tell them anything and they won’t judge me.

5. Katherine: What would you say is you most likeable characteristic?

Meredith: I can be very gregarious, at times. Bring me to your party and I’ll ‘work the room.’ Seriously, I do. Maybe I should have been a politican.

6. Katherine: Do you have any hidden secrets? You can tell me. I won’t go and share it      with others.

Meredith: I set a record at my high school for skipping class the most times. Of course, that’s come back to bite me since my teenage daughter appears to be following in my  footsteps. My mother always told me that ‘payback’s a bitch.’ Now that I’m a parent, I  know exactly what she meant. Darn, I hate when Mom is right! On a more serious note, there is a secret that I haven’t shared with anyone except Adam. Maybe we’ll talk about  that later.

7. Katherine: Who is the love of your life?

Meredith: Hands down, Professor Adam Lightfoot. My god, I love that man!

8. Katherine: Do you remember when you first met Adam?

Meredith: I sure do. I was recently divorced and went to a local bar in Alpine, Texas to   have a few drinks. Adam was tending bar there and watched me make a complete ass out  of myself. I was trying to pick up a couple of college guys, just to see if I still had it.   LSS-long story short the guys jilted me for a couple of younger chicks. I was mortified,    to say the least. Adam stood there and watched the entire episode unfold. Then he had the  audacity to offer me a drink on the house. I suspect he was so amused watching get rejected that the least he could do was give me a free drink. I turned him down flat  and told him to go straight to hell. Of course, at the time, I had no idea the two of us would fall in love.

9. Katherine: How did Adam win your heart?

Meredith: Damn! When you asked that hidden secret question earlier, I was trying to keep things light. But since you’re asking, I’ll just come clean. After my ex threatened to take my kids away from me, I felt as though my life had completely unraveled. I’m  ashamed to admit this, but I contemplated suicide. Adam caught me in the act and literally saved my life. He held me so tightly that I couldn’t go through with it. I cried a bucket of tears that day, but Adam stood by me, quietly listening. He never judged me. And more importantly, he never gave up on me.

10. Katherine: If Adam were to describe you in one word, what would it be?

Meredith: Feisty.

STARS OVER TEXAS – Book Two of the Dreamcatcher Series

Adam sat in the bed of his pickup truck, Meredith at his side as the two of them stared out into the black, West Texas sky. The best thing about living here was that the stars seemed to go on forever, thanks, in part, to the lack of city lights.

He studied her silhouette under the soft glow of the moon, noting the way she’d begun twisting her hair; a clear indication she was nervous.

And that prompted him to just come right out and ask her. “What would you think about us spending the night together?”

He heard her breathing stop and considered perhaps that had been the last thing on her mind. Loving a person and sleeping with them can mean two different things.
