How did you get the idea for your book?
Since last time on Romance Weekly I discussed In Her Dreams, this time I think I will focus on my January 1, 2015 release with Red Sage. The idea for Love Amidst the Egyptian Sands took a while to develop. Since I was a child I’ve been fascinated with Ancient Egypt. That fascination blossomed into a love for all things historical, but those years of reading about Ancient Egypt and Howard Carter’s discovery of King Tut’s tomb built the foundation for what would eventually be my story idea.
About two years ago I wrote a story titled “Can’t Beat Howard,” which was published in The Rusty Nail. The story was about an archeologist obsessed with finding not only the tomb but the mummy of King Akhenaten, the father of King Tut. This discovery would advance the fame of the archaeologist in “Can’t Beat Howard” beyond Howard Carter’s. Alas, the archeologist failed at the story’s end, but the story never left me. The story lacked something…romance! And that’s when Love Amidst the Egyptian Sands was born.
None of the characters from “Can’t Beat Howard” will be in this upcoming novelette, as both stories happen in different centuries. However, I can promise a reunion romance, the excitement of a discovery shared with a sarcastic yet sweet hero, and plenty of heat in the desert sands.
How did you decide on the title?
I struggled with a title on this one. Normally the title is the first element I come up with before even typing up a story. See, I have a title that matches a particular theme I want to write about, or a plot and characters I have sketched out. That never happened with Love Amidst the Egyptian Sands. The title came after the book was finished. I sat in front of my laptop, debated on a title, and came up with what connected romance to a desert far beyond the Nile. Love Amidst the Egyptian Sands. Simple, huh?
What motivated you to get the book completed and published?
Hmm… Publication is what motivated me to finish the story! I knew I had a unique story on my hands, and that I’d find a home for the manuscript. Lo and behold, after a little more than three months the book sold to Red Sage Publishing! And I couldn’t be happier, as this happened four days after I sold In Her Dreams to Harlequin.
I am not the only author participating in Romance Weekly!
