Today on the blog we have Juliet Madison, a fellow author at Harlequin Australia’s imprint Escape Publishing. She is the author of several sweet and touching contemporary romances. Please give her a warm welcome!

Book Related Questions:

1. What is your latest book about?

THE JANUARY WISH is a sweet, emotional contemporary romance about the pleasures of making a wish and seeing it come true.

When Dr Sylvia Greene makes an impromptu wish at the Tarrin’s Bay Wishing Festival, it’s the most out of character action she can think of. Hers is not a life of wishes. Hers is a controlled life of order, plans and preparation…of science and research and diagnosis and treatment. But her past has been weighing on her mind, and decisions made long ago have far-reaching consequences.

A week later, the daughter she secretly gave up for adoption at sixteen arrives in Sylvia’s small coastal town with secrets that can’t be shared. Between feelings of guilt, gossip, and a growing attraction to an emotionally unavailable colleague, Sylvia’s well-ordered life is soon thrown into chaos. She is no longer alone, and for the first time she feels as if her world is open to possibilities.

They say be careful what you wish for, but, for Sylvia, the unexpected consequences may be just what the doctor ordered.

2. What’s your favorite scene in your book? Can you describe the scene?

It’s always hard to pick a favourite scene, as I have a few. One scene that stands out for me though is when the main character, Sylvia, just when she thinks all is lost, finds the strength in herself to do something she hasn’t done for eighteen years in order to not let her town down. I won’t go into detail because it’s a spoiler, but it’s a special scene because she draws on her inner strength and puts her fears aside for a greater purpose.

3. Imagine you are trapped on a deserted island. Which character would you prefer to be stuck with, and why?

Mark Bastian because he loves the outdoors and could probably find food and help me survive! Plus he’s cute.

4. What makes your book stand out from all the others on the market?

It is an adult and New Adult (NA) romance in one. It is told in three alternating points of view – the heroine, hero, and the heroine’s eighteen-year-old daughter, so this gives the story a unique perspective, depth, and complexity that takes the story beyond a standard romance.

5. What do you want to resonate with readers when they read “The End”?

I want them to hug the book, sigh, and smile! And maybe there’ll be a few tears too. I want readers to feel uplifted and inspired and satisfied that all loose ends have been tied up, and most of all, I want them to be excited about reading the next book in the Tarrin’s Bay series, February or Forever. J

Fun Trivia:

1. Coffee or chocolate? You can only choose one!

Chocolate.

2. Favorite movie or TV show?

Friends.

3. Book that made you laugh hysterically, shed tears, or want to change the world?

The Babymoon by Melanie La’Brooy (laugh hysterically)

4. If you could write in any other genre, what would it be? Why?

I already write a few genres including romantic comedy, women’s fiction, romance, and supernatural Young Adult, so maybe I’ll say thrillers. It could be fun to be able to give people a fright!

5. What was the first romance novel you ever read?

I’d never read a Mills & Boon type category romance until a few years ago, and I never actually knew just how wide the romance genre was until I started writing, so I was probably reading some romance and not realising it! I used to read mainly mysteries and thrillers, and these only had a hint of romance, so my first taste of more in depth romance was probably when I started reading women’s fiction and chick lit, though I’m not sure what my first would have been!

6. What do you think is the most important element a book needs to be successful?

A compelling premise that is well written with authentic characters.

7. How can readers connect with you and learn more about your writing? (Be sure to include social media links!)
